EGC (General Court)

By Anonymous writer - Glossary

The General Court (EGC), formerly known as Court of First Instance of the European Communities, is the constituent court of the Court of Justice of the European Union. It assures the correct interpretation and application of EU law as well as obligations deriving from EU institutions and Member States. It was created in 1989 with the aim of introducing a jurisdiction with a double degree of jurisdiction in order to strengthen parties’ interests, to relieve the case load of the EUCJ and to ensure timely decisions.
