Neighboring Rights

By Anonymous writer - Glossary

Neighboring rights (also known as related rights) are associated with authors’ rights but refer to the rights of those who are not in fact the author and as such cannot benefit from authors’ rights.

Those who are accorded these neighboring rights may include performers,  music producers, video producers and those working in an audiovisual communications company.

Neighboring rights last for a period of 50 years starting from 1st January of the calendar year following the year that the work became known to the public.
